From a Footballist report dated July 30, 2019.
The spectators' class action over the "Ronaldo no-show" is most likely to turn on the compensation Juventus will pay the organizer, The Fasta.
Appearing on Naver Radio's "Football N Talk K" on the 30th, attorney Jonghoon Kim (Law Firm Changchun) gave his view on the "Ronaldo no-show." Joined by announcer Sun-joo Jung and Footballist reporter Cheong Ryu, Mr. Kim discussed the moves toward damages and the prospects of criminal liability.
Ronaldo's failure to play in the friendly between "Team K League" and Juventus (3-3) at Seoul World Cup Stadium on the 26th caused controversy. Ronaldo, who was to have played at least 45 minutes, declined to appear at all, disappointing the many consumers who had gone to see him and prompting preparations for a class action. The roughly 50-minute delay to kick-off and the inclusion of illegal betting sites in the banner advertising also emerged as issues.
Mr. Kim said civil damages were possible, and predicted that the compensation Juventus will pay The Fasta over Ronaldo's non-appearance would be the target. He considered it difficult, however, to prove criminal fraud. A summary of his remarks follows.
