Law Firm Changchun LLC has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the data foundry company Boundfor to build a foundation of legal trust for artificial intelligence (AI) data. The agreement is aimed at getting ahead of the unauthorized use of data and copyright disputes that arise frequently in the course of training AI models, in step with the rapid tightening of AI data regulation. In Korea in particular, as the introduction of a Korean-style discovery system (K-Discovery) coincides with the entry into force of the AI Framework Act, building systems capable of proving the provenance, usage history and integrity of the data a company holds is emerging as an essential task.
Boundfor and Law Firm Changchun plan to build an integrated response framework combining technology and law, spanning the entire chain from the creation of data through its use, storage and conversion into evidence. This will give original rights holders a clear means of proving unauthorized use of their data, and allow AI companies to head off legal risks that may arise in the course of using data. Within this framework, Boundfor's general-purpose AI data operations platform "DroPai" and its built-in "Proof Mode" support data provenance and history tracking and integrity verification, while Law Firm Changchun provides advice on designing compliance systems suited to a complex regulatory environment and on responding to disputes.
Building further on more than four years of collaboration in AI legal advisory work, the two organizations also plan to pursue joint research on developing digital forensics-based evidentiary models and on guidelines for responding to AI regulation. With this agreement, Law Firm Changchun will fulfil its role as a legal partner supporting both the protection of original rights holders' rights and the stable technological development of AI companies.
