From a Herald Business report dated January 30, 2018.
"Owners of the Honda CR-V who had been in a legal dispute over vehicle corrosion are to receive compensation from the company along with 'rust removal' services.
Law Firm Changchun, which represents Honda CR-V owner Kim and 96 others, announced on the 30th that it had obtained a settlement decision to that effect through the Consumer Dispute Settlement Commission.
Under the decision, Honda Korea and eight other companies that sold the vehicles must pay each purchaser between KRW 1.65 million and KRW 1.95 million in compensation — 5% of what they spent to buy the vehicle. Free repairs have been ordered in comparable disputes before, but a monetary compensation decision is exceptional. The sellers must also remove the rust from the seats and undercarriage of the vehicles complained of free of charge, and provide a rental car while the work is carried out. As a follow-up measure, a special ten-year warranty period will be set in case rust recurs.
A Commission settlement becomes final and enforceable if no objection is raised within 15 days of the decision being delivered. The Honda CR-V corrosion problem that consumers raised collectively thus looks set to be resolved by agreement, without proceeding to litigation, after some six months."
